Shirasaya Shinsaku
Reference :
HA85743
The Shirasayas have a special sword mount, which was used in the past for blade storage. Especially in peacetime, the blades were stored optimally. Many Shirasaya received a "Sayagaki", an inscription which gave information about the blacksmith, his origin and his assignment. In the streets of Japan, the inconspicuous handleless contraption was used, especially towards the end of the 19th century. At that time, the emperor prohibited the keeping of samurai swords. The Shirasaya looked a lot like a wooden sword or a wooden staff, was a smart way to carry the sword without being noticed.
